Identify Your Theology: Twenty Spiritual Questions ~ Number Eleven

Identify Your Theology:
Eleventh Question

I asked, in yesterday's post, what else is out there in the world, in addition to the divine. And if there's more, can we connect?

We are turning our attention to our next question, today, but before we do, head on over to your retreat room so you can relax and let go of any of the day’s stress. Or listen to the relaxation meditation right here...

Today’s Question

Is mystical experience possible? Do you think of yourself as a mystic or have you ever had a mystical experience as part of your spiritual path?

"A mystic is a person who has direct, personal contact with the divine or the universe, usually within a religious context. Mystical experiences, however, can occur in all times and places, even to those people who are not particularly religious. These experiences are not limited to persons of a particular faith, age, or spiritual development. Mystical experiences can happen without warning or any preparation on the mystic's part." ~Joyce & River Higginbotham

"You are a Mystic, known for your imaginative, intuitive spirituality. You value peace, harmony, and inner silence. Mystics are nurtured by walking alone in the woods or sitting quietly with a trusted friend. You may also enjoy poetry, meditation, wordless prayer, candles, art, books, and anything else that helps you connect with God.

Mystics experience God best through rich images and symbols. You are contemplative, introspective, intuitive, and focused on an inner world as real to you as the exterior one. Hearing from God is more important to you than speaking to God. Others may attribute human characteristics to God, but you see God as ineffable, unnamable, and more vast than any known category. You are intrigued by God's mystery.

Mystics want to inspire and persuade others, and need to live lives of significance. At times you push the envelope of spirituality, helping the rest of us imagine who we might become if we followed your lead." ~~The Upper Room

  1. Hi LADY! I love this... I am going to come back each day for a question. I personally have had mystical experiences according to the way you defined them. However, I never coined myself a mystic. Now while reading your post I laughed out loud because I'm doing this course where you have a visualization at the end of each chapter. A lot of the chapters ask you to imagine God walking with you... and the things I come up with are just crazy. There is never a face. Never a body. There are always eyes and feet but the rest of the body is never formed. I just don't see God in that way.... I think the last time I did the exercise God in my visualization looked like a giant purple fuzzy looking animal thing.. something you would see on Sesame street. I was like.. what the hell is that? LOL My brain just can't put a form on God.

Great post and so happy to connect again
    Hugs,
    Tam

    3. You're welcome! And thanks so much for your kind words. I visualize God (the ultimate divine) as spirit, so I really try to feel that God more than see God. But I believe there are lots of spirit helpers and guides that are easier to visualize and so in meditations, if I need to "see" something, that's what I try to see. Does that make sense? LOL!

  2. I don't think of myself as a mystic at all but by your definition it might be something I need to consider. I certainly enjoy many (most?) of those things listed. I look at the world as being infinitely connected to Source and to each other. We are all able to find that 'mystic' connection anytime we let go of ego and open up to it.

    1. I agree, Bonnie! I think we all can have mystical experiences. And many of us are mystics who don't know it yet.

    1. Thanks, Lynne!! I'm glad you love it. I love talking about mystical experiences, too. I've had them myself and believe, as well, that I will again.

By the way, I know that sometimes my readers disagree with what I say here and I wanted to let you know that not only is it okay with me if you happen to as well, but you also are welcome to tell me so, as long as you do so kindly.

Have a great day!
