Question Five
Yesterday's question asked for your beliefs about the divine. Today we continue exploring what god is like, as you understand God or the divine.
But before we turn our attention to our next question, head on over to your
retreat room so you can relax and let go of any of the day’s stress and prepare for deep thoughts. :)
Or, you can listen to the meditation here, if you'd like..

Today's Question
If you think of the divine as male, does the divine have feminine aspects?
"The Hebrew word for compassion portrays the love of a mother for the child of her womb. It implies a range of feelings including goodness, tenderness, patience, and understanding. It expresses the tenderness of God's feminine love. The kind of God Jesus experiences is one who feels as a mother feels. There is a beautiful tenderness in how Jesus views the divine." ~~Rev. Mark Townsend, Jesus through Pagan Eyes
During the gradual evolution of my own spiritual beliefs, one of the things I came to understand deep down was that I really needed god-the-mother! Something inside me longed for a mother goddess. Have you experienced similar longings?
"An uneasy reaction to the word Goddess is common among women. Thousands of years of repression, hostility, and conditioning against the Divine Mother have made a deep impression on us.~~Sue Monk Kidd, The Dance of the Dissident Daughter

So many of us live our lives stuck in neutral.
Do you ever feel that way?
What if you could get yourself unstuck & finally heal
whatever is blocking you from the life that's waiting for you.

Difficult question, of course as a woman I also need "god-the mother" if look around we can find her but all in different way and as Orthodox Christian I can say that Mother Mary for me is female goddess.
ReplyDeleteShasheta, I think you're right. Sometimes we just have to find her in a different way. I'm glad you have that kind of connection with Mother Mary.
DeleteI enjoyed reading your post. For me I believe absolutely that God has feminine aspects. I have studied Tanta and am also a big fan of paganism, both of which have both male and female aspects to the belief systems. I find it easier to identify with the feminine energies in the universe being a woman I suppose. Glad I popped by from UBC today and connected. I shall listen to your meditation later, much needed, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Andrea!! I'm glad you connected, too.
DeleteThough I identify with God as a male in the abstract sense, in reality, the God I worship is not confined to the boundaries of gender, yet encompasses both.
ReplyDeleteThat's good! I think we miss out when we only have one or the other.
DeleteI don't think I have ever thought about God as a gender so your question today has given me something to consider. Thanks for sharing. Best Regards, Wendy http://wendybottrell.com
ReplyDeleteThanks, Wendy! There are so many possibilities in how different people think of God. I was brought up to think of God as male, so the concept of gender was always with me. Making the shift to consider God as female or spirit did not come to me until much later in life.
