Identify Your Theology: The Fourth Question

Identify Your Theology:
Fourth Question

We are turning our attention to our next question, today, but before we do, head on over to your retreat room so you can relax and let go of any of the day’s stress. Or, you might want to just listen to it right here...

Today's Question

Which God is Your God?

Now that you created god, in yesterday’s post, let’s talk about the one you may actually believe is real. What do you believe about the divine? Do you think of the divine as male or female? Or spirit?

"All the theologies ever imagined ~ no matter how beautiful, powerful, or complex ~ are only descriptions. They are not the reality itself. In other words, ideas about God are not God. ... Furthermore, people may not even be having the same experience of the Divine. Perhaps we each experience a different part or portion of the Divine, the part that speaks most deeply & personally to us alone." ~Joyce & River Higginbotham, Paganism: An Introduction to Earth-Centered Religions

"Deep down, there’s a place within each of us that is made for one thing—a relationship with God. No matter how hard we try to cover it up or fill it with something else, we will never be satisfied. Our hearts will remain restless until they find their home with God. That deep, hidden part of you is there, even if you haven’t realized it until now." ~In Touch Ministries

Journal Questions

Now that you’ve read today’s question and a quote or two to get you thinking, head on back into the mini-retreat to blow out our candle, close the retreat and see the journal questions and the blessing I’ve recorded for you.

  1. Hi Jeanine, Interesting question for today. My God is the One True and Living God. A loving Heavenly Father who wants us to have a relationship with him because we are his children. I liked your quote above by InTouch Ministries because I believe that is true.

    1. Kirsten, I'm glad you have that relationship! And I believe that quote is true, too.

  2. I need to look back over the previous questions. I've not done the previous one but for me, God has always been the big guy with a long white beard. That is the picture that I saw as a child and has always been the one in my head since then.

    1. Lexi, that's the idea I had as a child, too (and my very first question is about what you believed when you were a child). I eventually had to let that image go, though, as I got older, because I found I couldn't connect to it.

  3. I'm really loving these questions...they all resonate deeply. I feel like I don't have an answer each day. They are blending together in my mind and heart and forming an answer gradually, organically.

    1. Oh, that's wonderful, Lynne!! Thanks so much! I am considering them each day, myself, and I feel like the same thing is happening.

  4. Hi Jeanine! To me, God and the Universe are one and the same. I believe that God is an all knowing, all powerful, benevolent entity. God is mysterious and unknowable. They being said, I believe that God reveals Himself ( or herself-God to me has no gender) to us all the time - we only have to open our eyes.

    1. I completely agree about opening our eyes! And also that God is all knowing, all powerful and committed to our highest good. I think of the universe as separate, though. And the whole thing seems mysterious to me. :)

Thanks so much for coming to visit and sharing your thoughts! Let me know where you are and I'll come say hello at your place next.

By the way, I know that sometimes my readers disagree with what I say here and I wanted to let you know that not only is it okay with me if you happen to as well, but you also are welcome to tell me so, as long as you do so kindly.

Have a great day!
